The George in Rye restaurant is at the heart of the elegant, luxurious, award-winning George in Rye Hotel, one of the finest in East Sussex. At the time of writing, the restaurant is under renovation, but the result is sure to reflect the modern stylishness and timeless comfort of the rest of the hotel. Parts of the building date from the 16th century at least and original details still abound: the Gill Parliamentary clock, the 18th century wig store, the original fireplace in the Tap. The secluded courtyard is an absolutely delight with umbrellas for sunny days and heaters for the rest of the year. Head Chef Andrew Billings sources his fish and produce from the local area, using them to create fresh, seasonal modern British cuisine with influences from Italy and France. The wine list is international, and includes superb English wines among its excellent choices.
